This is the main fundraiser for both organizations. I encourage ALL GARS and ARES members, BOTH new and old, to set some time to help work the dog show. Here are several reasons to do so:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a01. The income from the dog show helps fund the GARS repeater system, the Georgia QSO Party, Field Day, Satellites in the Park, etc.<\/p>\n<p>2. It is a great opportunity for a new ham to \u201cget his or her feet wet\u201d being on a net.<\/p>\n<p>3. The repeater is in use is a low powered repeater, and no one out-side of the dog show will hear you. If you are new and make a mistake, you will be among caring friends.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a04. No one cares if you do make a mistake,<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"file:wp-content\/uploads\/Beginners\/1.png\" alt=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>5. You can actually see the ARES repeater up close.<\/p>\n<p>6. It is a great chance to \u201cplay radio\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>7. The work is not hard.<\/p>\n<p>8. It is fun to do.<\/p>\n<p>9. You will get a nifty ARES hat to wear, if you don\u2019t already <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"file:wp-content\/uploads\/Beginners\/2.png\" alt=\"2\" \/>have one.<\/p>\n<p>10. For working the dog show, we often get a (small) free meal. Yes, it isn\u2019t a whole lot, usually a hot dog, chips and a small drink, but, hey, it\u2019s free.<\/p>\n<p>11. Most workers to not have to stand for long periods of time.<\/p>\n<p>12. The fresh air is good for you.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"file:\/\/\/F:wp-content\/uploads\/Beginners\/3.png\" alt=\"3\" \/><\/p>\n<p>13. You get to see all the dogs.<\/p>\n<p>14. You can sign up for a four-hour shift, if that is all you can do. Many sign up for eight hours.<\/p>\n<p>15. Even if you do not have a radio, we can still use you.<\/p>\n<p>16. You are needed.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"file:\/wp-content\/uploads\/Beginners\/4.png\" alt=\"4\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Items to consider bringing with you:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Hat (GARS Orange Hat if you\u2019ve got one)<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Rain gear<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Something to keep your radio dry, if it rains<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Flashlight, if you are on the early shift (and extra batteries)<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00b7 Hi-visibility orange or green safety vest (available at Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowe\u2019s, Northern Tools, etc)<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Whistle<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Sun screen lotion<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Comfortable shoes<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 2meter handheld radio if you have one (not required) and instruction manual so you can change the frequency, if required.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Name badge, if you have one<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"wp-content\/uploads\/Beginners\/5.png\" alt=\"5\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 GARS apparel (jacket, shirt, hat, etc)<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Snacks and water (GARS delivers water to the volunteers as needed.
