He was a top-notch SSB Contest operator winning the US for the ARRL Sweepstakes SSB (twice), ARRL DX SSB (twice), and CW Sweepstakes DX SSB (twice). Over the years he gave back to the hobby in many ways including stints as CQ 160 Meter Contest Director, Assistant ARRL Director of two different Divisions for a total of 25 years, and was the ARRL SE Division DXAC member between 2010 and early 2018.
