May 2004 Meeting Notes

19:30 Meeting opened.
David KA4KKF president opened the meeting then introductions by all present.

Dan KF4YSU treasurers report.

 Ken KI4BQS secretary minutes from last meeting deferred to next meeting.

 David KA4KKF mentioned the Paul K4BET has not received a lot of information for April's Garzette. 

Earl AF4FG – vice president and field day chairman, there is a need for additional band captains and someone to coordinate the food. Ron WE50 portable toilets have been ordered. Ron volunteered to be 40 meter CW band captain.  Andy KB7UV agreed to work with the assigned person to advertise our field day event.  

David KG4ZKN Membership chairman:  Welcome new GARS member Tom Power W8RED.   

David KA4KKF coming events in the area: 

 May 31st Dacula Memorial Day Parade we have 11 people so far we need a few more volunteers.

June 5th,  Atlanta Hamfest.  

June 8th the commissioners meet and June 27th at 14:00 we will receive a proclamation for Amateur Radio Appreciation Week. This year it will include emergency management as well.   

We are still looking for a newsletter editor for the Garzette.   

Mike K4HBI:  June 8th through the 10th is the G8 conference on Sea Island. MARS monitor the rally frequencies. Amateurs can monitor on 3.975. Special event call sign W8G.   

Susan AF4FO: Please write to President Bush ask him to reconsider his position on BPL.  

Closed ballot was held to decide between application 1 and application 2 for the GARS scholarship. Both applications were read to the membership.

Brief break prior to John WB4QDX activities chairman introduced Eddie our repeater chairman. Next month the program will be on field day. 

Eddie had an excellent presentation the GARS repeater systems and answered questions on our configurations, age of equipment and repeaters in general.
