For the August GARS meeting, John Davis will present a program on various
computer logging applications.  He will demonstrate several different programs
for general logging, contesting and digital.  He will also discuss
the issues of computer logging such as rig interfacing, Logbook of
the World, DX Spotting and more.

If you're not currently using computer logging, it will be an
excellent opportunity to see some of the programs available and how
they work.

GARS Congratulates Andrea, KG4IUM !!

From the Section Manager.. Susan AF4FO

In case you haven't heard the good news, it is now official that our very own ANDREA HARTLAGE, KG4IUM, has been named as co-recipient of the esteemed Hiram Percy Maxim award, with the final decision being made at this past weekend's Board of Directors meeting. Andrea, a Gwinnett county resident, is a fifteen year old extra class operator, who has been licensed since the ripe old age of eleven. This busy young lady is a member of the Gwinnett ARS, the Alford Memorial ARC, Gwinnett ARES, and participates in many public service events and amateur radio demos, especially those that are geared to youth. She has been one of the instructors at the Richards Middle School ARC ever since its inception, and was instrumental in getting an amateur radio club established at Sweetwater when she was still a student there. She is also the online youth editor for the ARRL, and was appointed as Assistant Section Manager here in Georgia not too long ago. A cool and calm operator who does an outstanding job as net control, she has already received a "good operator" card from an OO in Illinois, and is a member of the prestigious A-1 operator club. And those are but a portion of all that she has brought to amateur radio...

As if that weren't enough, she is an active participant in many academic activities in school, while maintaining a straight A record, and acting as a peer counsellor to her fellow students.

Amateur radio has added a lot to her life, no doubt. But there's also no doubt that this special young lady has brought a lot to the hobby, too.

We're very proud of her. And she is most deserving of this award.

Congratulations, Andrea!!!!

This award will be presented at the Alford Memorial ARC hamfest in Lawrenceville the first weekend in November.

That's it for now, folks. Just wanted to be sure that you'd heard the good news. Until next time, this is AF4FO, signing clear. Take care of yourselves. And each other, 73, Susan
