General Information about the Dog Show!
Next Dog Show is February 1, 2 and 3, 2008. That's a Friday, Saturday and Sunday
We need your help to have enough folks to do the job from
6:00am until 2:00pm each day.
GARS and Gwinnett ARES provide parking fee collection at the parking
lot entrance and parking lot supervision for the Cherokee Rose
Cluster Dog Show. There is usually a donation for these services,
and this is shared between GARS and Gwinnett ARES.
What will you likely be doing? Helping guide dog lovers to a parking
space, keep dog lovers from parking where they should not, reporting
incidents and help keep traffic flowing in the parking lot and around
the building.
Starting sometime after 5:00am each morning you will probably find
some traffic on the GARS repeater. But once we're on site, the
repeater doesn't work.
If you don't think you can put in a complete day! Then let Amy
know, and be there from 9:00am till whenever, or come around noon and
relieve someone for a couple hours. The busy hours are from 8:00
till about 11:30.
This project isn't for everyone, but if you like to spend mornings
with some of your fellow amateur radio friends, you like the
outdoors, and look forward to telling a tall tale or two and at the
same time help fund some of our projects, then "COME ON DOWN".
It will probably be cold. So dress appropriately. Layers are
generally appropriate. Since you'll likely be standing, good foot
wear is important. Bring a folding chair in the slight chance you may
be able to sit for a few moments.
If you're there early, a small flashlight might help (more for being
seen than seeing). Rain Gear as appropriate. A whistle as an
attention getter may save you a few steps.
We'll have water and coffee on site and there is a snack bar on
site. If you have a 2mtr hand held bring it and a spare battery, but
it's not a show stopper.
Get confused or need more information, give me a call 770-840-9664
Cell 770-313-9410.
The show is called
The Cherokee Rose Cluster
Held at:
Atlanta Expo Centers South,
3850 Jonesboro Road
Atlanta, Georgia 30354.
It's 3 Miles East of Atlanta Airport, 1 mile East off
I-75. I go down 285 east until I get to the Jonesboro Road Exit (55)
(Just before the Airport) and turn left (east). At the second traffic
light, Corley Rd turn left again. Go about half of a short block and
turn left into the parking lot. When it's dark, the entrance to the
parking lot looks like a big dark hole.
We group at the front gate about 50 yards off the street. Onsite
we're using 146.505 simplex, or the portable repeater. The repeater
is 147.045 with a minus 600 khz offset for transmit. Yes your radio
will want to do plus 600 when you put that frequency in but it will
do minus if you hit the right menu...buttons. The access tone is
82.5 just like in Lawrenceville.
Give the repeater a listen as you get close to the site. Doug,
KB6RRX is usually listening early in the mornings and can talk you in
if you get lost.
Amy would like to know if you plan to be there. If you're on the
list fine. If not, please send her a note at :
